What is “the deed’? It seems like Tyler had a rough summer. Working for that building company like that. (7)
The author is very eloquent when describing Tyler in love with Bethany. It is very funny hearing the author’s voice describe seniors in love. It is so deeply developed that I think that adults would be able to relate to how Tyler is feeling (8)
Wow, quite some revenge Tyler got on Chip! I think it is good that Tyler let Chip fight, only to let Chip get himself out of control. Quite a way to start a party. (17)
Chip really hates Tyler. To blame the accident on Tyler like that? Wow… (18).
At least Bethany’s parents did not kill Tyler. They are so clueless that they don’t even realize that Bethany’s brother did all of this. (33)
Tyler is TOUCHING his crush and picking her up. Bethany does not seem like someone light. Tyler must be very ambidextrous for him to balance Bethany on his back and carry her around. If Tyler stumbles, he could hurt Bethany because her injuries are so bad. That’s why he has to be so careful with her. (38)
I don't think Tyler wants to be the nerd at school anymore, just some jock that has iron muscles. And description of that hallway scene? OMG, pg-13. Laurie Halse Ahderson really knows how to create the high school sex and drama aspect of this book.
Tyler does not want to be the weird kid anymore. He is so ravenous for muscles of steel and publicity that he will do anything to reach his goals. For example, he'll start working out again instead of doing homework and plan to bomb the school to be known (89)
Tyler is so ravenous for muscles of steel and publicity. He'll ditch homework for working out and set a bomb in school so everyone knows him. (89)
His mom really is a Christmas freak. (91)
Tyler's family bond is breaking apart. Tyler's dad gets mad by the slightest problem. (105)
I wonder who posted the picture of Tyler "sexual harassing" Bethany because it is not true. The author was able to foreshadow that something bad would happen at the party like Bethany dumping Tyler. That was one of the penalties of Tyler going to the party. The police are talking about Tyler and the whole school is giving him the evil eyeball. (159)
Great. Isolation for Tyler is the "perfect" punishment for Tyler. So, now everything will be "fine". (170)
Wow! That sentence about the whole book is so powerful...I wonder how the author came up with that sentence, writes a book about it and put that sentence in the right place. (189)
Tyler is finally 18. A milestone of his life (198).
Tyler is on a time ticking bomb. If he doesn't leave the town, he will kill himself with anything. (229)
This is one of the climax's of the book. Tyler has finally accepted the janitor's advice and stood up for himself. I agree with the janitor: Tyler's dad is a big jerk. All he cares about is having money to support the family. It seems normal, but he is so obsessed with his job that he rather have his "messed up" son go to jail than defend him. (238)
Tyler finally decided to leave the mess to dad. If I was his mom, I would be so proud of him. He had the courage to stand up against his dad even when he wanted to die. (244)
Tyler and his dad are together peacefully. His dad thought that he was different than his dad, but he wasn't. Then, he apologized and begged Tyler to stay home. (248)
What a great way to end the story. This book is one of my favorite books I have read so far in my life. If you are able to handle pg-13 material, then this is a great book on a aspect of reality. (250)
I think Tyler's father is very scary and has a hard time controlling his anger becasue he detonates; or he explodes with suddenness and violence(4).
I observerd that Tyler's father and mother are having some issues and they go to get help. i also noticed that tylers father detonates very easily(5).
"See thats why I was a bad son. Lack of respect"(21). I noticed that tyler compares himself to others alot and thinks that his family doesnt like him.
Tyler has a very good sense of humor, "Maybe my family had joined the witness-protection program in exchange for testifying about what a loser I was"(27).
Tyler is sarcastic and humorous. Throughout the book tyler talks to the reader in italics. The parts in italics are like whats going through his mind.
Throughout the book Tyler talks to us like he is telling us what he wants to happen or what he is going to do. "One punch, a long slo-mo shot to the soft underbelly of the beast to make him double over, just one punch, my fist so far inside him that the knuckles scrape on his spine"(55).
Courage is making the right choice when everyone else is making the wrong choice. This lesson about life is shown throughout the book Twisted, by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is about Tyler, a senior in high school that is trying to change his life. There are three parts of Tyler’s life that requires guts in his choices: his family, his academics and his social life. High school is a reality full of stress and pressure that humans must face in order to be successful in life. The risks a person takes in this period of time will determine the rest of your life, demanding hard work, courage and a bit of luck.
High school is a time when people start to make important choices in what they want to achieve. For the past three years, Tyler has been getting good grades in school. However, due to recent actions, Tyler is considered a big freak. He sprayed painted bad words on the school and his grades are dropping. Recently, Tyler was framed for sexual abusing a girl, but it was not Tyler. He decides to take drastic measures. The principal punishes him by making him stay in a classroom by himself, with no air conditioning and food for the school days. This a a step in the right path for Tyler because it will keep him from other people, where he might be tempted to be naughty. By accepting this false charge, Tyler will be picked on so that this false rumor will not be spread.
Tyler’s social life is going great. He is dating the girl of his life and Chip, the person who usually bullies him is scared of him. One of his friends, Yoda, wants to try to convince his sister to date him. So, one of his choices he makes is to join the football team. However, as a nerd, he gets close to being beaten up in the locker room. Tyler knows that if he tries to save his friend, he will be considered strange for helping this nerd. But, Yoda is his friend. Tyler decides to stand up and prevent Chip and his henchmen from beating Yoda up. Taking a risk to help a friend will make someone’s day, even if it will backfire.
Finally, Tyler’s family issues are very complicated. His family relationship is dissolving, with his mom and dad constantly fighting over him. His dad hates him because people judge his family like in the same way they judge Tyler. Tyler’s dad wants to get Tyler out of his life. So when the police go to arrest Tyler, he supported that action or else Tyler would go to military school. However, Tyler won’t let that happen. He will stand up to his father, the person that has been ruining his life, and inflict physical pain on him. His father is a big jerk; he has no respect for his son and rather throw him away.
Taking chances is part of life. There will be good opportunities and risks that backfire. Before, Tyler did not think about what he wanted to do. Now, he knows that taking the rights actions will lead to a better life.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
