I observed that some of the satyrs are rude and won't give up on finding Pan. Even though Grover had figured out Pan had died. They won't listen to Grover no matter what. (82).
The satyrs won't accept Pan being dead. Since Grover has told them that news they won't except him now either. I think this is unfair and rude and that the satyrs finally need to start accepting it. (83)
I am confused why Ms.Castellan thinks that Percy and Nico are Luke and that she thinks Luke is going to be home for lunch everyday. (93)
I observed that Percy or Nico don't tell you there plan and that I will find out the plan as the book goes on. (110)
I am confused about why Percy and Nico must go to the Underworld again. I am also confused about what is there plan. (116)
I observed that Percy has now become dangerous after he went into the Styx because he is very powerful and can defeat almost a whole army by himself.
I am confused about who Rachel really is since she can read Ancient Greek and knows when Percy is in trouble. "'There's trouble in New York. Percy's in danger.'"(212).
Leneus has decided to accept Grover."I am the leader of the Council, and you did tell me to find Grover. Well, I found him, and I'm not going to let a mere outcast lead the satyrs without my help!" (242). This quote shows that he might have started to accept Grover by coming to help him lead the satyrs in battle.
I noticed that Rachel is very brave because she came to help Percy and warn him, even though it would be dangerous.
Nico is very brave to try to convince Hades to help save Olympus. He knows it is dangerous because Hades is very powerful. Hades even threatened to blast Nico. But Nico said, "Blast me. That's just what the other gods would expect from you. Prove them right." (282)
Clarisse is very encouraging."She was so inspiring, even the panicked centaurs started to rally."
Clarisse is very brave. "Even without her armor or spear, she was a demon. She rode her chariot straight into the Titan's army and crushed everything in her path." (298). She came and tried to help save Olympus even though it is dangerous.
Chiron is very brave. He tried to defeat Kronos. ¨He had an arrow notched, aimed straight at Kronos's face.¨ (312).
Nico was right when he said to Hades that his relatives would appreciate him coming to help save Olympus. Hades was shocked when his relatives invited him to come visit Olympus. "The god of the dead looked stunned when his relatives clapped him on the back." (342)
Rachel takes many risks to find her destiny. When she has the choice to become the Oracle she takes it even though her life is at risk. Rachel is daring. (366)
Percy is very caring because he cares for the other campers. The gods told him he can become immortal as a gift for saving Olympus. He wanted to become immortal but he couldn't just leave his friends behind. Instead of becoming immortal, he wanted his wish to be that half bloods that have not been found yet must be brought to camp. This shows that Percy is caring.
Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian
Theories and Conclusions Piece
Saving the day is not the only way to be a hero. This is demonstrated in the book “Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian.” In this book, it takes a lot of effort to be brave. But being brave can earn you rewards. Being brave can turn you into a hero. You just have to try to help every way possible and never give up no matter what happens.
In the book, you would assume that Percy Jackson turns out to be the person who saves the day. But that is not true. Luke, the person who gave himself up to Kronos, ends up to be the person that saves Olympus. Luke sacrifices himself because that is the only way for Kronos to be defeated. Even though Luke saved the day, Percy is still considered a hero. He fought as best as he could and did his best to keep everyone safe. He was determined to win the battle and he never gave up even though he was very scared. Percy does not just care about himself, but others. Because Percy Jackson is brave, courageous, and determined, he is considered a hero even though he did not save the day.
Rachel Dare is a mortal girl who can see through the mist. She became Percy’s friend when she helped save him in a previous book. Rachel later becomes The Oracle Of Delphi after the they won the fight for Olympus. Other people such as Rachel Dare, are also considered a hero even though she played a small role in saving everyone. Most people would not consider her a hero because she did little in the fight for Olympus. (She did not fight in the war). However, she did come to help Percy even though she is not a half blood and it was very dangerous for her to come. She came because she knew that Percy was in danger. This makes her a hero in her own way. This also shows that you don’t have to save the day to be a hero.
Another example of a hero is Nico Di Angelo. Nico is the only son of Hades besides his sister who died trying to save her friends. While the war was beginning, Nico wants to help. His father Hades does not want to help save Olympus even though he will die if Olympus is destroyed. Hades believes that the other gods treated him unfairly and will not forgive them. Nico convinces him to come help fight in the war. Nico is brave for trying to convince Hades because Hades is very powerful. He almosted blasted Nico for asking him to help save Olympus. Nico acted like he didn’t care and kept persuading him until Hades finally agreed. When Hades came to fight it helped hold back Kronos and his army. Nico Di Angelo did his best and he wouldn’t give up until Hades came to fight. This proves Nico is also a hero.
Silena Beauregard was a half blood who died trying to help save Olympus. She was forced to be a spy for Kronos and she felt horrible about it. The Ares cabin refused to come help fight because of an argument. Clarisse, the leader of the Ares cabin wouldn’t let anyone go no matter how much Silena begged. Silena knew that they needed the Ares cabins help. She put on Clarisse’s armor and convinced the cabin that she was Clarisse. She then took the cabin into battle. She died in battle because she wasn't that good of a fighter. When she was injured, they took of Clarisse’s helmet and found out it was her. Being brave enough to do this shows Silena Beauregard was a true hero, even though she didn’t save the day. She tried her hardest even though she was scared.
The last example of a hero that didn’t save the day is a girl named Clarisse. She is the son of Ares and is the leader of her cabin. After she figured out that someone had lead her cabin into battle, she came on her own to find out it was Silena. Clarisse is tough and strong. She raced through Kronos’s army defeating enemies because she was angry about Silena Beauregard dying. She was very brave as she charged into battle but she was not scared. She was brave and angry. She did have a big impact on the war because she and her siblings from her cabin held Kronos’s army back. Clarisse is considered a hero because she was brave and determined.
Saving the day is not the only way to be a hero. These five characters in “Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian,”are all examples of heros in their own way. None of them saved the day but in this book and in many other books, you don’t have to save the day to be a hero. You just have to help any way you can and do your best.
Percy is confused and upset, because his father said that he did not need any help from him. Percy's father is in the middle of war at the moment, and seems that he could really need help to defend his home, but he said that he did not need any help from Percy. This could make Percy feel sad because this could suggest that Percy's father might feel contempt toward Percy, making Percy feel unreliable. (pg 40)
I think Beckendorf is a flat character after he died because he can no longer change and he will be the same for as long as people remember him. Beckendorf is effecting the story in a way because everyone is missing him after he died and the main character Percy is feeling grief because he was there when Beckendorf died. This makes Beckendorf a flat character but he still affects the story in a way, making him important . (A various amount of pages)
On page 17, the author uses sarcasm as of explaining a problem. On that page, there is a huge crab that the main character Percy has to defeat. The crab has been defeated once, by getting stepped on. Since the crab is giant, the author says"This crab was slightly bigger than my Reeboks" This is a use of voice because the character was being sarcastic.
Percy is angry, because there was a spy in his camp. There is some evil spy in his camp for his enemies at war, and when ever they have some plan to fight back at the enemy, the spy always reports the attack and they get caught. That is really annoying and it could get Percy and his comrades killed. (pg 27-28)
Clarisse is annoyed because she never gets what she wants. She and her cabin deserve the magical chariot that flies, but another cabin says that the flying chariot does not belong to Clarisse's cabin. Many things like that happen to Clarisse. She and her cabin are never respected. Clarisse feels like her cabin is a small, worthless thing in a vast community when her cabin should be a lot more important and respected. (pg 53)
On page 103, Paul is a unreliable narrator because he cannot see through the mist. The mist is a magical substance that alters the vision of mortals, making them see different situations that what is actually happening. Since Paul cannot see through the mist, he cannot supply the correct information needed to tell the reader what actually happened. For example, a hell hound bigger than his living room appeared right in front of his door, the mist altered his sight, so he thought the hell hound was a carpet. this shows that he is unreliable because he did not tell use what actually happened.(pg 103)
The author has unique names for all the chapter in the book! One chapter name is I got my cookies scorched. This maybe a example of voice or a unique way to explain what the chapter has in store.
Everyone is scared because they have to fight the evil army of Kronos and Kronos is a titan and is really powerful and they have very little chance of winning against a a titan. (pages that are the whole book )
Percy is surprised, because he has found the evil monster the Minotaur, and the Minotaur is a evil monster that Percy fought 6 years ago. This could get Percy worried because the Minotaur will probably want revenge for being killed by Percy. The Minotaur will probably also not under estimate Percy like he did last time. (Pg 182-183)
Clarisse is angry, because one of her only friends, Silena, died for her. When Clarisse refused to help her camp in their war against Kronos, her friend Silena pretended to be her and lead Clarisse's cabin to war. In the war, Silena died, so Clarrise probably feels regret for Silena after she grappled her hands around the monster who killed Silena. (pg 294-295)
Percy maybe angry because he is tired of Kronos trying to usurp all of Olympus. Percy has to deal Kronos and his army with a group of about 40 of his demigod friends. Percy has no help from the gods, whom's homes they are trying to save. Percy probably have never given up if he was a round character and he would never change through out the book. Instead, Percy is a round character that changes. Prove of that is that Percy is in between the chose to surrender or keep fighting. If Percy was flat, he would have never even thought of surrendering. (Various pages in the book)
Annabeth is becoming more of a round character than a flat character because her emotions are changing and she is getting to one of the important characters in the book. Prove of that is everywhere in the book. For example, on page 190, she took a knife to her back to save the main character Percy.
Prometheus is disappointed because the human called Percy Jackson refuses to surrender Olympus to the titans. Percy Jackson and his demigod friends are refusing to defend Olympus and are a obstacle in the titan's path to victory. Also Prometheus does not want to fight the humans. He made them after all and really would not want to destroy the life of one just for victory! This shows that Prometheus is confused about what to do and would rather read a Verbiage than fight one of the humans.(Pg 217- 229)
Silena is a round/flat character. I say this because she changes very little in the book and in this book, she mostly griefs about how her boyfriend died. In the beginning of the story, Silena would have been a flat character completely if her boyfriend did not die. When he died, she was very sad and was never the same. Later, in the book, she stopped crying and started to help in war effort, she would have exceeded to becoming a round character if she did not die. She died in the war pretending to be someone else to try to encourage people to fight. This is why she is a round/flat character. (All pages before 297)
Hades is in grief because his wife just died. The building that his wife was in was just hit with a very powerful lightning bolt that demolished the whole building. Hades probably would be very angry. (pg 209)
Luke is angry because his father finally showed up and Luke had never seen his father all his life. Now that Luke has seen his father, he is angry because he finally decided to show his face. Luke always wanted to meet his father and his father had left him with his crazy mother that had random personality changes that completely freaked out Luke. Luke may also have the hidden emotion of sadness because his father never had the time to see him.(Pg 223-225)
On page 257, there is an example of time cuts. For example, the book says, "The next few hours were a blur" This shows that the author is advancing in time because some of the information in the battle is irrelevant to the actual book and the author thinks that there is no need for them.
On page 177-178 the author describes one of the new introduced minor character. "His face was wolfish. his body was vaguely like a seal's" This shows that the author has created different, non human characters to add in the book. Could this perhaps be because of lacking uniqueness, or maybe a show of how creative the author really is?
Percy is angry, because he has just learned that Michel Yew, a camp counselor in the war against the titans, has just died. Michel was not really close to Percy, but Michel was one of the forty demigods that Percy had on his side on the war against the titans. Furthermore, Michel was actully doing a good job in the war, for example, he was leading his cabin to glory and he was fighting of enemies 10 times stronger than he had ever faced in his life. Michel Yew could have been a great companion in the war or even a friend to Percy, but he had to die.
The author, on page 179-180, has a unique imagination. The author made a sand dollar stand for ocean currency. Two of the river gods were fighting over a sand dollar because they wanted to have it. This is an example of Rick Riordian's exotic imagination.
Percy is a unreliable character because he says in his dreams that he sees real life things happening, like glimpse in the past, and other events that foreshadow things that happen in the book. These dreams could be unreliable because there is no prove that the are real. They could just be actual dreams and all just be false.
Percy is busy because he has a war to instruct. He has to help people fighting monsters, make plans with all the other commanders in the war, and other busy things. You could compare him to other great commanders in other wars. For example, Percy could be a commander in the American revolution, because he has earned the respect of all his fellow army and has commanded them through tough battles against the strong army of Kronos. (Pages throughout the book)
Annabeth is confused because her best friend Luke is very angry and does not want to talk to any one! Luke is a great leader and Annabeth looks up to Luke. (pg 223-225)
Percy is worried because he things that he can't hold Olympus for long. Kronos' Army is really big and Percy and his less than 40 man army can not hold Olympus for long. A secondary emotion is grief because Percy has gotten a lot of people killed.
