"As a child, he dreamed of owls" (pg 69). Throughout "The Fifth Wave" and now "The Infinite Sea", when the Others would first inhabit the humans while they were sleeping, they'd make them dream of an owl, to cover up what they were doing.
In greek mythology, owls represent wisdom, and because of that, I think that possibly the author chose to make the thing that appears in the peoples dreams owls because the Others believe that by inserting themselves in humans, they are giving them wisdom that they would not have had if they had just been human.
"The car's undercarriage against his back" (90). This is a reference to when Evan first found Cassie-she was injured, hiding under an abandoned car thinking she was about to die, panicking about what to do. Right now, Evan is hiding under a car, also injured, panicking about what to do, as if he makes the wrong choice, he won't be able to make it back to Cassie, as he'll be dead.
"'We're losing her,' White Coat calls out, tremble-voiced. 'No,' Vosch murmurs, cool hand on my wet cheeck. 'We have saved her.'" I think what they are doing is downloading an alien consciousness onto her, but the way Vosch says "We have saved her" is interesting. Does he really believe that this is being saved, that it is an awful thing to remain human, or is it just that by having her become half Other, she won't be killed like the rest of humanity, and so she was saved from being killed?
