On page 90 the author makes me feel the embarrassment hat Logan feels. "Maybe no one will notice his fathers parting words. No luck. All three contestants swarmed him." (90)
On page 120 the author puts a surprising plot twist that makes you second guess the characters personalities. "The cabinet! That could only mean one thing. Someone was trying to steal the candymakers secret recipe!" (121)
On page 126 the author adds little things about Miles so we learn about him in a interesting way. "But he loved words, and he loved strange words best of all. D's and W's rarely hung out n to each other." (126)
The author writes in a smooth way so I feel in the moment with Miles. "He'd never forget the peacefulness of that moment-the sun warming their cheeks , the light breeze swaying their boat- because it was in such contrast to what came next." (145)
The author makes Miles seem shy when he doesn't want to admit his crush on Daisy. (168)
Miles is very brave. Miles is going to fight the intruder so he can protect the the candy factory. At first Miles seemed wimpy and not very brave because he was "allergic" to everything. But now he is putting his life on the line so he can protect the factory.
I like how the author wrote "names were things spies took on and off like clothes." She compared the spies names to taking on and off clothing.
Daisy is living a a double life by being a spy. She has to play roles of people instead of being herself. " Daisy kicked the ground. What she wouldn't give for some privacy once and a while." (194) I like how the author shows that Daisy isn't 100% in love with being a spy.
I like how the author adds small plot twists to keep readers entertained. "She didn't know his name but she'd know him anywhere. The only time she had been replaced on a job was because of him." (197)
The author shows that Daisy is a hard worker and it takes a lot of work to be a spy."She'd never had much time for them (feelings) espically on a mission." (207)
Even though Dasiy is on a mission she stands up for Logan when Phillip is mean. " Why did this boy keep baiting Logan?Didn't he have feelings at all?" (211)
Phillip might not be as inocent as he seems because he came out of a supply closet instead of the bathroom. The author creates mystery ans supsense
Daisy is adding her own spin on this mission because she thinks her client is going to use the secret candy ingredient for evil. Daisy is working with AJ to find the secret ingredient and the right person to give i to.
Daisy is fumed when she finds out that her family let her skip a birthday and that she is actually a teenager. A.J is actually starting to become more friendly with Daisy. "I'm sorry I even told you. Yea why did you?"
Daisy is actually having fun in the competition." You sound like your actually competing in the competition. Daisy blushed she didn't know how to answer. Was she really planning on entering?" (245)
Daisy is face to face with someone who is on the same mission as her and I think it's Phillip. " Standing right before her eyes was the last person she ever expected to see." (259)
Phillip thinks he will be smarter and better then the other contestants."...But he doubted that any of the other contestants would know how a suit was supposed to fit." (255)
Phillip is focused on getting revenge on Logan for letting his dad kick him out of the candy factory seven years ago.
Phillip is being obnoxious on purpose to try to get the others to befriend Logan so they can see for themselves that Logan will turn his back on them. "Too bad they didn't know that Logan wouldn't show them the same loyalty. He would only turn his back on them just as he had on Phillip seven years ago." (280)
Phillip feels guilty for being the cause of shutting down the factory picnics, he gets reminded by this when he sees the rubber ducks that used to be given out.
Phillip gets his winning idea for a candy harmonica that actually plays when he is i the storeroom and he finds the plastic harmonicas. (313)
Phillip told his father to cancel the plan to take over the factory because he liked the candymakers and he felt bad that he knew his father was going to take over the factory. (317)
Philip and the others are bonding and becoming friends because they told each other who they really are.
Everyone is helping Phillip because they all want his candy to win and they promoted Logan to captin because he won't win and won't become the new candymaker.
The author writes eloquently when she describes Daisy and Mrs. Sweet's conversation."It's wonderful to see you all getting along so well sometimes competition brings out the worst in people. Or the best, Daisy wispered when she wasn't looking." (379)
Phillip and the other contestants are preparing the harmonicandies for judging and making their own candies ready to lose so that Phillip's is sure to win.
Miles is entering a pie in the contest, so Phillip has a better chance of winning because only candy is allowed to be submitted. Miles gets this idea when he is ravenous.
The new candymakers are at the convention and they are setting up their candys and Phillip is trying to make people taste his candy so they vote for him.

Although Philip’s initial intentions were frivolous he ultimately becomes a hero. Philip at first wants to win the Life is Sweet candy competition to prove to Logan that he can. But then he has to win the competition to save the factory from closure. Four contestants are chosen to make the best candy and have in produced by the factory. The contestants seem to be regular kids with a dream of having their own candy produced by a major company, but not all of them are what they seem. All of the selected children have come to the factory with a little more than candy on their minds. For example Philip only entered the competition to get back into the candy factory after being kicked out seven years ago. His dad wants to buy the factory because it would bring in a lot of money. He doesn’t believe that Philip can win so they make a bet that if Philip wins the competition his dad won’t buy the factory. Mass writes “It’s true. Philip insisted ,looking them each in the eye. My father promised that if I win, he won’t buy the factory.” (355)
Daisy, Logan and Miles agree to lose on purpose to increase Philip’s chances of winning. They all want to keep the factory the way it is and Philip winning is the only way. Miles makes a pie instead of candy, Logan’s candy doesn’t do what it says it will do and Daisy’s candy just tastes plain old bad. All of these are violating the rules of the candy competition. “I know! said Miles. I can submit something against the rules, like a pie!” Mass writes. (374) “ Mine’s easy. I’ll tell them my real age and they will have to disqualify me.” (374). All of the other constants are finding ways to disqualify themselves. They would have to make the harmonia candies (harmoni-candies) taste amazing and actually be able to play in order to beat the kids from other candy factories. The judges disqualify Daisy and Miles then try some of the other candies. Some other candies were disqualified like MIles’s and Daisy’s. It was almost like they were also trying to help Philip win! Philip realizes that one of the potential winning candies tastes like it has another ingredient in it but he can’t put his finger on it. He gives it to Logan because he has a gif for sniffing out ingredients in candy.
“ AJ! It’s caffeine. Alex Gruber put caffeine in in the Iscream!Logan shouts. “ Mass provides this quote to show Logans gift and to show how Philip can win. Philip tells the judges about the illegal ingredient and they go to try the candy in private. They come back with a disqualified sticker on the plate. Phillip wins the candy competition and calls his dad. At first he doesn't believe his son, and comes to see for himself. But despise his disbeliefs, his son won fair and square. (well sort of.) After the competition the candy factory is safe and although Logan doesn’t ei he still helps Philip produce the harmoni-candies. As for Daisy and Miles, they go back to home but still drop by to see Logan and Philip. This is how you can change your motives from doing something you want to something you need.
