Theories and Conclusions
Performing a selfless act creates a strong foundation upon which friendship can built. In the story Charlotte's Web there are many selfless acts to do to make friends. One example is when Charlotte wrote “Some Pig” on her web to make Wilbur a runty pig get notice by people all around the state so he would be treated better by the farmer. The second selfless act is when Fern Arable yelled at her father when he was about to kill the runt of the litter which will be Wilbur. The third magnanimous act is when Templeton the rat got newspapers with words on it for Charlotte to put on her web.
In the beginning of the book Fern the daughter of the Farmer saw her father walking outside with an ax. She asked him what it was for and he said there was a runt pig he had to kill. Out of the goodness of Fern’s heart she yelled at her father to not kill the runt and let her nurse it. Every day she would bottle feed the pig milk and let it roam the farm. After the pig was big enough she had to give the pig she named Wilbur to her Uncle Homer who would keep it on his farm until it was sold. Fern visited Wilbur every day and watched him eat and walk around his pen.She could not go into the pen so she sat on a stool next to the sheep and a goat.
Charlotte the spider saw that Wilbur the pig was not being fed as much and not being treated well by the farmers. Since she loves to spin webs overnight she wrote the words “Some Pig” on her web. When the Farmer saw the miracle on the web he told all of his family and soon the word traveled. After a couple of days people from all over the county were coming to see the phenomenon on the web. SInce Wilbur was so famous the farmers treated Wilbur better.
The last reason is when Templeton the rat got newspapers ads from a dump he likes to go to for Charlotte to read and put on her web for Wilbur. Templeton got words like terrific, radiant, and humble. In the beginning of the book Templeton would only help Charlotte and Wilbur if they promised him food or talked him into it. At The end he did out of the kindness of his hearty. Even though he was mean to all of the animals and would take Wilbur's food without asking he still did something nice. There are many selfless acts in Charlotte's Web. Friendships are built on selfless act to one another. By the end of the book Charlotte, Wilbur and Templeton are friends because of a few magnanimous act of kindness. All of Charlotte and Templeton's acts of kindness helped Wilbur the pig win a prize in the county fair. That shows that every small thing you do for someone can create a friendship.
